PSEG Long Island analyses of new North American Electric Reliability Corporation rules has determined that the Western Nassau area of the system must be upgraded by December 31, 2020. Consequently, system improvements, such as transmission reinforcements or resource additions must be implemented to address these conditions.

The RFP is seeking 160 MWs of resources in Far Rockaway by December 31, 2020, increasing to 275 MWs by 2030. At Glenwood the RFP is seeking 100 MWs by December 31, 2020 with no increase thereafter. The RFP is open to all resource types that can meet the specified performance requirements, including conventional generation, energy efficiency, demand response, distributed energy resources, and energy storage resources. Interested Respondents, though, must propose a solution that meets total resource requirements at either or both locations but may contract with other providers to provide portions of those requirements. However, a single party must be the contracting entity responsible for the performance of the entire solution. PSEG Long Island also will be evaluating a transmission solution as an alternative to resource additions and will select the most economical of the options available. Renewable resources that are selected as part of the Western Nassau RFP will be considered as contributing towards meeting LIPA's overall renewable resource goals.
